Theory Test
What does the Theory Test consist of?
The Theory test consists of 2 parts, one is a multiple choice quiz that will test your knowledge of the road, the other is known as the hazard perception test. You can read more about both of these parts further down this page.
Booking your Theory Test Early
Once you have your Provisional Driving License and you have started driving we advise that you book your theory test as soon as possible. The reason we tell our students to book their theory test early is because there is normally a 3 – 10 week waiting list depending on how busy your local testing centre is.
Theory Test Help
Road Signs
One of the questions you may be asked on your theory test will be to identify what certain road signs are… Don’t worry.. We have provided you with an Online/Downloadable PDF file displaying all of the UK’s Road Signs including descriptions of what they are so you can learn about them whilst on the move.
Multiple Choice Theory Test
The Multiple Choice part of the theory test is completed using a computer. During the test you will be asked 50 questions – each question has 4 answers to choose from. You will be given 10 minutes practice time and then 57 minutes to complete the Multiple Choice section of your Test, after the time limit is up on your test you will be given a score out of 50. In order to get a pass on the multiple choice part of your theory test you must answer at least 43 of the questions correct.
Hazard Perception Test
The hazard perception test, which is the second part of your Theory test, consists of 14 video clips which are just over 1 minute long. Over the course of all 14 video clips you will have to spot 15 developing hazards – 1 for each video. However 1 video clip will have 2 developing hazards.
During Each video you are expected to click every time you see a developing hazard. At the end of each video you will be awarded a certain amount of points (1 – 5 points) based on how long it took you to spot the hazard after it appeared. The maximum score you can earn is 75 points – for all 14 videos, anything less than 44 is classed as a fail and you will have to retake the test.
We have provided you with a Official DVSA Video and a Free online Hazard Perception Mock Test that will give you an idea of what the real test is going to be like.
